The National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) is located in the education sector, H-8, of Islamabad. It is centrally placed between twin cities of Islamabad-Rawalpindi, and provides an ideal educational environment NISTE is a merger of National Technical Teachers' Training College (NTTTC)the Institute for the Promotion of Science Education and Training (IPSET) Both of the above institutions were established in the early eighties and subsequently merged in 1997 to form NISTE.
The Government of Pakistan has appointed NISTE, Islamabad as a "Competent Authority" relating to technical vocational education at schools and various Diploma courses in Polytechnic Institutions and colleges of technology for carrying out the purposes of the Federal Supervision of Curriculum, Textbooks and Maintenance of Standards of Education Act, 1976. It functions directly under the control of the Ministry of Capital Administration & Development, Islamabad.
